Parent Orientation for Grade V Exhibition

The IB PYP Exhibition involves learners working collaboratively to conduct in-depth inquiry connecting their exploration to real life issues. The Exhibition is also held to celebrate the transition of our learners from the primary to the secondary level of schooling.

A Parent Orientation Programmed was held on the 2^nd of February, 2019, for the parents of our Grade V students to orient them as to how learners are involved in various stages of learning, the activities corresponding to these different stages and their intended learning outcomes, assessments, and integration with the essential elements of PYP. The team of parents understood the different roles they could play in the exhibition to support students’ learning.

The orientation was also an opportunity for parents to gain insight into how learners could exhibit and develop the attributes of learner profile, synthesize the knowledge collated over their PYP journey, incorporate the key concepts, and use a wide range of skills access resources to engage in meaningful action through the Exhibition. The parent community walked away from the orientation with a deeper understanding of how the PYP Exhibition is driven by the processes of learning, rather than just the products of learning.

IB World International School for the World of Tomorrow - DRS

The students of DRS International School celebrated United Nations’ Day on its formation day the 24th October by organizing a special assembly. It was a day to come together; focus our energies on the goals that bind the world together and the work taken up by it in various countries. A speech by the students of Grade XI-B highlighted the aims of Sustainable Development Goals and objectives of the UN. UN flag along with 17 posters displayed the aim and targets of each goal. The chart displays made these goals stand out clearly and distinctly and also inspired the assembly to take small individual steps towards these universal goals.

DIGITAL ARTISTS AT WORK!

The Inter-house Digital-Designing Competition held yesterday for the students of Grades IX-XII was a great platform for our in-house photoshop wizards to put their best creative foot forward. The theme of the competition was ‘Geometrical Design’ and the students were given the task of designing a cover for the Yearbook using Adobe Photoshop.

While onlookers were particularly impressed by the students’ familiarity and ease with the software, they were equally wowed by our students’ ability to thrive under pressure- they wove their on-screen magic in just under 30 minutes!

With interesting geometical patterns, use of negative space and colours, the designs show our students’ flair for this emerging field that blends both design and technology…

CREATIVITY ABUZZ!

Yesterday afternoon saw the school abuzz with activity as the different clubs met with their members to explore new territory! The club meet had a little something for each student!

The Eco Club set the year in motion by encouraging students to make innovative models such as pencil pouches, paper weights and chocolate boxes out of used plastic bottles. This best-out-of-waste activity provoked students into thinking about the possibilities that reusing and upcycling held.

The Visual Arts club introduced students to the different elements of figure-drawing and character-sketching in creating cartoonists. Our budding cartoonists had a great time choosing, mixing and matching to create their own characters.

‘Literary Express’, an engaging platform organized by the Literary Club in the library, saw students collaborate to enlist the objectives of the club and brainstorm on the literary skills they needed to develop.

The MUN club, meanwhile, saw students getting exploring the roles of the Secretariat, Organizing Committee, Executive Board and Delegates in the Model United Nations and how they correspond to the real-life functioning of these bodies in the United Nations Organization. The meeting was equally informative and inspiring.

The Cuisine Club discussed their plan of activities for the year and enjoyed sharing and discussing the recipe of delicious coconut balls with all member students from Grades 6-10. The club believes in promoting flameless cooking for young children and a tasty treat such as this is definitely a promising start!

The DRSIS Community & Humane Club members spent the afternoon creating pen holders and stands with low-cost and resusable materials like popsicle and ice-cream sticks. The activity was creatively challenging as well as promoted social responsibility.

The Music Club saw introductions being made as students and teachers got to know each other better. Students were segregated according to their interests in vocal and instrumentals. ‘Gift of a friend’ was also introduced to the students.

The Performing Arts Club, had an equally eventful meeting with the students grooving to Latin dance songs such as Bailando. Students explored a few Latin dance steps and thoroughly enjoyed doing so.

The geeks of the Design & Technology Club had an interesting meet, dismantling a CPU cabinet and examining its insides. They identified the internal hardware components and understood their functioning in an up-close, hands-on manner!

With each of the clubs raising the bar, there’s no doubt why club-meets continue to be the one of the most-awaited events in the calendar!

WORD WIZARDS!

Our residential students put their thinking caps on for the inter-group Spelling Bee eventconducted for both the seniors and the juniors this Sunday! After two preliminary rounds to shortlist the participants, four students from each category took to the stage to rise up to the challenge!

The rounds were engaging and challenging in equal measure. From fun rounds such as ‘Get Jumbled’, ‘3 clues’, ‘Get Sportive’ & ‘Visualize’, both the participants and the active audience had a great time putting their grey cells to work. Nagbhushan of Grade VII, and Sri Havya of Grade XII, emerged the spelling-bee champions of their respective groups and were applauded for their quick thinking and flair for spelling!
