Songbirds!

Our PYP students sang their hearts out in the Inter-House Singing Competition held at DRS. The theme of the competition was ‘Patriotism’ and our students sang both classics and contemporary hits.

The practice and effort that each house had put in to their performances was evident in their co-ordination. With a creative mix of Hindi, English and Telugu in the form of medleys, the songs were truly representative of the diversity that is inclusive in the concept of patriotism.

The hand-made ‘flag’ badges and posters the students created added a welcome creative touch to the competition and was a great opportunity to observe our PYP students’ ‘action-orientedness’.

Tried…and Trusted!

Shedding one’s inhibitions and placing one’s trust even in a familiar person is hard under testing circumstances. Trust-building is both an exercise in opening up and developing confidence. Our students of the residential wing experienced both in a trust-walk organized for them in a session held this Sunday!

The experience helped them step out of their comfort zones and take social risks. This and other team-building exercises helped our students collaborate with their peers and develop stronger bonds!

This Saturday, our PYP Parent Community of students studying in Grades III-V had a gala time with their kids in school! The Parent Involvement Activity, was truly ‘hands-on’ with activities that were creative and collaborative like papier mache, clay modelling, fun games and power-packed performances.

There was a touch of the whimsical in the air, with the ambience featuring both aquatic and monsoon elements. The event encouraged the parents to let down their inhibitions and participate alongside their kids with child-like enthusiasm. From energetic dances, song recitals and even a skit, the ‘Showstopper’ event was quite a hit with everyone.

The ‘Make a Wish’ Tree was truly the centre of attraction, and inspired participants to send out their wishes out in to the world, together. The quirky Photobooth also drew a lot of visitors and gave them a souvenir to remember the day by. The event is sure to be remembered for some time to come.

RISK-TAKERS CONQUER FEAR!

IMG_6330

DRS International School, believes strongly in inculcating International Mindedness in our students by developing and nurturing the Attributes of the IB Learner Profile! Our IB Primary Years Programme students portrayed their understanding of the attribute of the IB Learner Profile ‘Risk-taker’ through a skit in the morning assembly this morning. The skit beautifully portrayed how we can act to change and take control of our lives by overcoming ‘monsters’ both inside, and out!

IMG_6337

With elements of the assembly in both English and French, the skit inspired each one of our students into thinking that it was possible to do anything they had set their minds on doing and the decision to act, was the only thing standing between themselves and their goals… A motivating start to the week ahead, indeed!

The World Population Day was observed by the special assembly held in the Secondary Wing this morning. The assembly was well-researched, with a poster-display and presentation that explored awareness of population issues, and that of the causes of over-population in India in particular. The assembly talked at length how family planning, gender equality and ensuring maternal health was crucial in maintaining a stable and healthy population.

DSC_0162

The Interactive Quiz that followed got everyone thinking about World Population facts. With guesses and approximations, the quiz was open to the entire assembly to participate in. The assembly was informative and saw a good turn-out of participating speakers and students. It left everyone present with plenty to think about…
