'Saying No to Drugs' ...

The students of Grade IX D made a powerful statement with the stand they took against Drug & Substance Abuse in the special assembly held this morning to mark the International Day against Drug Abuse! With an entertaining yet immensely relevant skit, the students made the message of ‘Saying No to Drugs’ one that had a deep impact…

With an original script and some power-packed performances from the students, the story of an adolescent experimenting recreationally with drugs became a compelling warning against the dangers of addiction and its lasting effects. The skit showed how peer pressure and an inability to say no firmly could lead to drastic consequences for one’s health, career and happiness.

Our school psychologists, Ms Sangeetha and Ms Aarfa spoke at length about the nature of addiction, and how habits can become dependancy. The assembly was both informative and englightening.

A BOND LIKE NO OTHER!

Here at DRS, we understand that there’s nothing quite as powerful as the bond between a parent and a child. To do our bit to celebrate and nurture this special bond, the IB PYP Wing hosted a Parent Involvement Activity for the parents of our little ones studying in the International Kindergarten and Grades 1 & 2.

A range of fun games and activities made the day extremely special. Parents were grouped in three and were guided through three stations of activities. Paper Art, which was a fun blend of wire art and papier mache encouraged the adults to dabble in a little sculpture with their wee ones, while fun with clay was a real hands-on experience. The Photobooth drew huge crowds who wanted a click to remember the fun day by and the one-of-a-kind Wishing Tree was certainly a highlight. The fun and games also helped parents actively bond with their little one.

Without doubt, however, ‘Showstopper’, a platform for our parents to showcase their talent was the real attraction of the day! The parents of our students dazzled everyone with their confidence and myriad talents, inspiring their children in the process as well. Quite a few parents teamed up with their kids to perform, making for many adorable and memorable performances.

THE ADVENTURE OF A LIFETIME!

While stormy weather and grey skies may depress some, our students of the residential wing made the most of the outdoors during the night out to Adventure Cove! Our students set of on the journey to this weekend getaway soon after the Parent Visit, thrilled to be out on the road in such pleasant weather.

At Adventure Cove, situated an hour and a half away from school, our students were warmly welcomed by the proprietor Mr Prasad and his team with some energizers and ice-breakers that set the tone for the rest of the trip. The sudden burst of rain that followed dinner was not only thrilling but was a true test of our students outdoor survival skills and made for a true adventure camp experience.

The following morning saw our students undertake a long and scenic trek amidst natural rock formations and green trails. Adventure activities like rock-climbing, rapelling, zip-lining and river-crossing, saw our students, irrespective of their age, push themselves to overcome and triumph over their reservations. The sumptuous lunch was followed by many team-building activities that helped our students bond with each other, making the trip a truly unforgettable experience!

FRESHERS’ NIGHT AT DRSIS RESIDENTIAL WING!

This Saturday Night, our Residential Wing was the place to be, with the much awaited Freshers’ Night being held. The even was a great platform for the newcomers in the residential wing to showcase their talent and individuality, while it also helped thaw the ice and make everyone feel warm and welcome.

The engaging and interactive anchoring by Arvind and Sai Panja ensured the event went on smoothly. Inside jokes and doses of wit had everyone laughing and in giggles. With music, dance, skits and stand-up comedy the entertaining event helped our students get to know each better and bond as a community!
