GRADE – IX (CBSE & IGCSE) FIELD TRIP TO NEHRU ZOOLOGICAL PARK, HYDERABAD
“Diversity of life makes earth beautiful”. To learn more about diversity of life, Grade 9 students visited ‘Nehru Zoological Park, Hyderabad’. This is the first Zoo in India to have animals arranged in Zoological order, in open enclosures. Such open enclosures, in near natural ambience, makes animals feel “at home”. Students enriched their knowledge on different endangered and endemic species and their conservation after visiting zoo. They understood the fact that it is very essential to conserve endangered species otherwise they may become extinct in near future. Students related their own knowledge on characteristics of animals which they learned in “Diversity of living organisms” lesson.
They saw different several indigenous animals like Asiatic Lions, Royal Bengal Tigers (Yellow & White), Panthers, Indian Rhino, Gaur, Several primates, Bears, Deers, Antelopes, Birds, Reptiles etc. Exotic animals like Giraffe, Iguanas, and Chimpanzee
It is the first Zoo in India to start an open Butterfly Park in 1998.Several host plants have been planted in this park to attract the Butterflies. Several species of Butterflies can be seen in this park. Aviaries with recently added birds is an add on attraction.
One of the most attracting area is ‘Museum’ which displays models based on animal evolution in one section and human evolution in another section.
Jurassic park with life size models of Brontosaurs, Stegosaurs, Triceratops and Tyrannosaurs are displayed with information panels to educate the visitors about the Giant creatures which ruled the earth millions of years ago.
Aquarium which is renovated with large fish tanks, several aquatic species on display. Both fresh water and marine water aqua life on view. Colourful fishes in this aquarium attracted students.
On the whole, it is a wonderful field trip for students. They have got hands-on experience which enriched their academic knowledge.
